Frequently Asked Questions:
-
How does Osteopathic treatment feel?Manual Osteopathy aims to be as gentle and as pain free as possible with all assessments and treatments. It is uncommon, but some minor soreness in the following hours or first 1-2 days following a treatment session may occur.
-
What should I expect during a treatment?Because there's nobody else exactly like you, treatment is highly individualized. A health history will be conducted, and then a thorough physical assessment will follow. Finally, the practitioner will discuss and apply treatments, noting areas of concern on which to focus.
-
How soon can I expect results? Most patients who will have meaningful improvement will start to see progress in 2-4 sessions. If you have a long term or chronic condition, you may require more treatment to appreciate any difference. The number of sessions you may need depends on your presenting symptoms and unique situation. After the initial intake and assessment, a more detailed discussion can take place between you and your practitioner.
-
What should I wear? Please wear comfortable/loose clothing, ideally clothing that can stretch and does not restrict movement of any limbs or joints.
-
Do I need to remove any clothing during my appointment? No, we will typically work over top of any clothing. If access to skin is required, we will always pursue patient consent before doing so. As always, these decisions are up to the individual, and the practitioner will respect and work around requests and limitations to ensure that you always remain comfortable and in control of the treatment.
-
Is Osteopathy covered by benefits? Most health insurance plans in Ontario cover Manual Osteopathy. We are not currently covered by Canada Life. Please check with your benefits provider if you are looking to use your benefits to cover treatment. ACMA # 23-496
-
What Age/Demographic do you treat? At this time, we are currently only treating individuals aged 16 and over. Those under 18 years of age who are seeking treatment must have a parent or guardian present at appointments, and must have a parent or guardian able to sign consent forms.
-
Do I need a physician's referral? We do not require a physician's referral in order for patients to book an appointment, but we always welcome and appreciate referrals.
-
What if I need to cancel my appointment?Out of respect for the practitioners and other potential patients, we ask that you cancel no later than 24 hours before the start time of your appointment. If there is an emergency situation that requires a cancellation, we aim to be understanding and sympathetic to your circumstances. Please note that any cancellation or no-show within the given time window may incur a fee up to the full cost of the appointment.
