Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How does Osteopathic treatment feel?
Manual Osteopathy aims to be as gentle and as pain free as possible with all assessments and treatments. Some minor soreness or aches in the hours or first 1 or 2 days following a treatment session may occur.
  • What should I expect during a treatment?
Because there's nobody else exactly like you, treatment is highly individualized. An initial treatment will begin with a detailed health history to better understand the abilities and/or limitations of treatment for you. The practitioner will then conduct thorough assessments to determine the best course of action. Finally, the practitioner will discuss and apply treatments, noting areas of concern on which to focus.
  • How soon can I expect results?
Most patients who will have meaningful improvement will start to see progress in 2-4 sessions. If you have a long term or chronic condition, you may require more treatment to appreciate any difference. The number of sessions you may need depends on your presenting symptoms and unique situation. After the initial intake and assessment, a more detailed discussion can take place between you and your practitioner.
  • What should I wear?
We recommend you wear comfortable clothing, ideally clothing that is stretchy and does not restrict movement of any limbs or joints.
  • Do I need to remove any clothing during my appointment?
No, we will typically work over top of any clothing. If access to skin is required, we will always pursue patient consent before doing so. As always, these decisions are up to the individual, and the practitioner will respect and work around requests and limitations to ensure that you always remain comfortable and in control of the treatment.
  • Is Osteopathy covered by benefits?
Most health insurance plans in Ontario cover Manual Osteopathy. However, due to Manual Osteopathy not being regulated in Ontario like other professions such as Physiotherapy or Massage Therapy, each insurance provider can choose which associations they require Manual Osteopaths to join in order to qualify for coverage of services. Please check with your benefits provider if you are looking to use your benefits to cover treatment.
  • What Age/Demographic do you treat?
We are currently only treating individuals aged 18 and over. If you are looking for a Manual Osteopath to treat children, infant, or pregnancy situations, please look for special pediatric or prenatal qualifications on their website before booking with them.
  • Do I need a physician's referral?
We do not require a physician's referral in order for patients to book an appointment, but we always welcome and appreciate referrals.
  • What if I need to cancel my appointment?
Out of respect for the practitioners and other potential patients, we ask that you cancel no later than 24 hours before the start time of your appointment. If there is an emergency situation that requires a cancellation, we aim to be understanding and sympathetic to your circumstances. Please note that any cancellation or no-show within the given time window may incur a fee up to the full cost of the appointment.
